Why Travel?
Posted on Friday, June 10th 2011 - 6:30 AM by Dana Mayber

“Life changing”. “Memories for a lifetime”. “Unforgettable experience”.

Ask anybody that has had the opportunity to travel abroad and these are a few ways they may describe their experience. Traveling abroad is about more than just seeing a new place - it allows people to immerse themselves in a completely different world leading to self-discovery and long lasting life lessons. If you have not yet had the chance to visit another country here are some reasons you should start planning a trip:

You will have fun
Traveling is definitely worth dealing with airport hassles and long travel times. Whether you are taking an adventurous trip zip lining above rainforests in Costa Rica or ascending Mt Kilimanjaro or simply wondering the quiet tranquility of the Roman Ruins, you are in for remarkable, unforgettable experiences.

You will meet amazing people
“Voluntouring” is a growing trend in today’s world. While abroad, you will have the opportunity to impact many local people’s lives. The impact that you make will likely pale in comparison to what you learn from the local people. While abroad you will be able to learn how other people live, what is important in their lives, and how they express their values and beliefs.

You will gain a sense of accomplishment that will help you grow in your daily life
Traveling to a new place takes you out of your comfort zone. This may be scary at first, but after you settle into your new location you can begin to discover all that the country offers. Learning to overcome obstacles such as language barriers and cultural differences teaches you patience, tolerance and other life skills that will be useful even when you return home.

You can see remarkable places
They say a picture is worth 1000 words, but actually being at the destination in person is priceless. A picture is not comparable to witnessing a sunset in the backdrop of an African safari, seeing the natural architecture wonders of Rome, or watching a volcanic eruption before your eyes.

You will become a global citizen
Though travel experiences may seem like once in a lifetime opportunities, the lessons learned are long lasting. Through first hand learning, you will be able to understanding different cultures and become aware of global issues, allowing you to gain a new perspective on the world. Even after returning home, your newfound global vision can become far reaching as you share your experience with friends and family and continue to build relations with the people you met along your journey.

What are you waiting for?
